Change Made is committed to telling honest, human, and transformative stories rooted in dignity, equity, and accountability. As an independent storytelling platform, our ethical foundation is built on community trust, editorial integrity, and transparency. These guidelines help protect the people we feature, the storytellers we support, and the audiences we serve.
core Principles
We center people and communities first
We don’t extract stories. We aim to build long-term relationships with the communities we report on and represent them with respect, complexity, and care.
We commit to editorial independence
Our content is never influenced by funders, advertisers, or partners. Story decisions are made by our editorial team and contributors, not by outside stakeholders.
We fact-check and verify
Accuracy is non-negotiable. We confirm facts, quotes, and context through thorough research and, where applicable, multiple sources. When errors occur, we correct them transparently.
We disclose conflicts of interest
Contributors and team members must disclose personal or financial connections to a story subject. We avoid or clearly mark any potential conflicts.
We don’t exploit trauma
We approach difficult subjects — including displacement, violence, and injustice — with sensitivity and consent. We work to avoid sensationalism or retraumatizing the people involved.
We support consent and agency
When photographing or interviewing people, especially in vulnerable situations, we prioritize informed consent. Subjects have the right to understand how their story or image will be used.
Editorial Standards
Voice and Perspective
We encourage diverse perspectives and voices — especially those historically marginalized. Contributors can write in the first person or bring lived experience into their reporting.
Verification & Sources
We verify all information with care. Anonymous sources are used only when necessary and with editorial approval. We aim for transparency in sourcing wherever possible.
Representation in Visuals
We do not stage or alter documentary photography or video unless clearly labeled. Captions must accurately represent the content of the image and its context.
Paid Partnerships & Commissions
When a story is sponsored, co-commissioned, or funded by a third party, we disclose this clearly. Sponsored content is always distinct from editorial work.
Corrections Policy
When a factual error is discovered, we correct it promptly and add a note acknowledging the correction.
Accountability & Transparency
We believe ethical storytelling is not just about what we publish, but how we publish it. We welcome feedback from our audience and the communities featured in our work.
